Low Profile Antenna

Low profile: It means small height and width.

A Profile: It is a side view, often defined as 90 degrees from the front or back view.

Low Profile Antenna is the antenna which can be mounted to buildings and cars(plane surface). Low-profile antenna often has high input impedance, and it also has small gain. Importance of antenna height is to avoid effect of ground reflected signal on a radiation pattern. The small height has an effect on gain; it reduces gain and coverage length or makes directivity reduced.

Low-profile antennas are important especially in the UHF band, where they are used on military platforms to reduce platform visibility and decrease overall antenna weight.

Technically, it has been challenging to combine a low-profile design with broadband capability.
